Quarter Cow vs. Beef Subscription: Which Is Right for Your Family?

Quarter Cow vs. Beef Subscription: Which Is Right for Your Family?

A quarter cow and a beef subscription solve the same basic problem: keeping quality beef in your freezer. The difference is how much beef you want at once, how much freezer space you have, and how your family prefers to shop.

At Riverbend Cattle Company, we offer both because there isn't one option that's right for every household.

Option 1: The Quarter Beef Share

A Riverbend quarter beef currently provides approximately 105 pounds of packaged beef.

You'll receive a broad assortment of cuts from the animal, giving you everything from ground beef and steaks to roasts and slow-cooking cuts.

A quarter beef can be a great fit if you:

  • Cook beef frequently
  • Have a dedicated freezer
  • Want to make fewer purchasing decisions throughout the year
  • Enjoy cooking a variety of cuts
  • Want to buy a substantial amount directly from your rancher

You'll want roughly 4–5 cubic feet of available freezer space before bringing a quarter home.

Option 2: The Ranch Club Subscription

Ranch Club takes a different approach.

Instead of approximately 100 pounds at once, each delivery contains around 15–20 pounds.

The assortment is roughly 50% ground beef and 50% steaks, roasts, and other cuts, and subscriptions are available every one, two, or three months.

Ranch Club may be a better fit if you:

  • Have limited freezer space
  • Want beef delivered to your home
  • Prefer smaller recurring purchases
  • Like discovering different cuts
  • Want the convenience of automatic freezer restocking

Which One Costs Less?

Price matters, but we recommend looking beyond the price of a single pound.

Consider how your family actually shops.

Does having a freezer full of beef reduce last-minute grocery trips? Will you use the less-familiar cuts in a beef share? Would smaller deliveries reduce food waste? Do you have enough freezer space?

The better value is the option your family will actually use.

Can You Start Small?

Absolutely.

If you've never purchased beef directly from a ranch, you don't need to jump straight into a half or whole animal.

Ranch Club is an easy way to learn which cuts your family enjoys and how quickly you use beef.

Once you understand your family's habits, you may decide you're ready for a larger beef share.

Or you may decide Ranch Club is exactly the right amount.

Either answer is fine with us.

Our goal is to help Florida families find a better way to buy beef—and develop a closer connection with the people raising it.
