Fall Harvest Shoulder Steak Skillet (Apples, Sage & Caramelized Onions)
Celebrate cool-weather cooking with this cozy, one-pan Fall Harvest Shoulder Steak Skillet. Seared Riverbend Cattle Company Shoulder Steak is paired with sweet apples, caramelized onions, fresh sage, and a touch of cider for a richly flavored autumn dinner that’s weeknight-easy but special enough for guests.
Ingredients
For the Steak
- 1 ½ to 2 lbs Riverbend Cattle Company Shoulder Steak, patted dry
- 2 tbsp olive oil (divided)
- 1 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1 tsp kosher salt
- ½ tsp freshly ground black pepper
- ½ tsp garlic powder
For the Skillet
- 1 large yellow onion, thinly sliced
- 2 medium apples, sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp fresh sage, chopped
- ½ tsp thyme
- ½ cup apple cider
- ¼ cup beef broth
- 1 tsp Dijon mustard
Instructions
- Season steak with salt, pepper, garlic powder.
- Sear in a hot skillet 3–4 minutes per side; set aside.
- Caramelize onions in oil & butter 8–10 minutes.
- Add apples, garlic, sage & thyme; cook 3 minutes.
- Deglaze with apple cider & broth; stir in Dijon.
- Return steak; cover and cook on low 5–10 minutes.
- Rest and slice against the grain before serving.
