Locally Raised Beef

Florida’s ranches typically operate at a cow/calf level, meaning their cows have a calf each year and raise it until weaning, at which point it is shipped to a state that can produce feed for the animal to continue growing on. Instead of selling calves at weaning, we raise our cows here in Citrus County and sell the beef directly to local customers. This allows us to connect with our consumers directly, helping to bridge that gap from farm to fork, and educate consumers about Florida’s beef industry and its rich heritage.

While raising beef is extremely complex, one of the biggest keys to our management is minimizing stress to the animals— in everything from environment, to animal handling, all the way through processing. In addition, all Riverbend beef is dry-aged, resulting in extremely tender, flavorful cuts of beef.

HOW DO I RECEIVE MY BULK BEEF ORDER?

Because of the size and weight of these bulk orders, quarter, half, and whole steers are available exclusively for local pickup at our ranch in Floral City, Florida. We will work with you to schedule a convenient pickup time, and your meat will be fully butchered, flash-frozen, vacuum-sealed, and ready to be loaded directly into your coolers!

HOW MUCH MEAT IS IN A QUARTER COW?

A quarter beef share typically yields between 100 to 120 pounds of packaged, ready-to-cook meat. You will receive a premium assortment of high-end steaks (like ribeyes, strips, and filets), savory roasts, and versatile ground beef.

HOW MUCH FREEZER SPACE DO I NEED FOR A HALF COW?

A half steer requires approximately 8 to 10 cubic feet of dedicated freezer space. A quarter beef typically requires about 4 to 5 cubic feet. We highly recommend a standalone chest or upright freezer for your bulk beef share.

ARE YOUR CATTLE GIVE THE mRNA VACCINES?

No, we have never given our cattle the mRNA vaccine.

IS YOUR BEEF GRASS-FINISHED?

Our cattle are always on pasture, and the ones that are in our beef program are also fed a grain finishing ration to help add more marbling and flavor. Even when they start receiving that additional feed, they never come off of pasture. We believe that the best way to raise cattle is with free access to pasture at all times, so even in the finishing stages, our cattle are never taken off pasture.

WHY DO YOU FEED YOUR CATTLE GRAIN?

While there’s an abundance of grass here in Florida, it’s generally lacking in nutrients. Supplementing our beef steers ensures that they get the protein, energy, and other important nutrients needed for raising top-quality beef.

About Us

Riverbend Cattle Company sits on the shores of the Withlacoochee River, just outside historic Floral City, Florida.  The ranch is on the site of a Pioneer Farm designated by the State of Florida and farmed for more than 100 years by a single family. After the Civil War, the land was awarded to two brothers who fought as Confederate soldiers. They went on to farm the land, which continued through the generations, all the way until it was sold in 2015. The historic farm’s legacy then went to live on in the hands of the current ranchers, Billy and Megan Bevers.  

A Florida native, Megan’s background was in the horse industry. The use of horses in ranching allowed her to meet some of the amazing folks in Florida’s beef industry, and to see all the care and hard work they put into raising their cattle. Knowing that she wanted a career with values she could take pride in, Megan purchased a herd of cows in 2015 and began raising beef to sell in the local Tampa Bay area.
